What could be healthier than tuna? All the ingredients in tuna salad are so good for the body except for the artery clogging oils in mayonnaise. I came up with a tuna salad recipe using the healthy fat in avocado to replace the mayo. You will love it!

Eating real food is not a diet, it is a lifestyle change and unfortunately clashes with popular food culture.  A decision to eat naturally is often misunderstood by those who do not share your convictions.  Spiritual motivation to change eating habits is not based on weight loss, even though eating naturally does drop the pounds.  Good health for Jesus, and for the temple of the Holy Spirit…your body,  is the greatest motivation.    Being healthy is a form of worship for me as I deny myself what culture tempts me to taste.  See my post  7 Simple Ways to Eat Healthier for more about eating real food.

The reason I am passing on this easy recipe is because it never occurred to me to make fish tacos like this before my daughter taught me, so I wondered if you would be interested too. It's a quick simple meal with lots of fishy goodness for your family.

Fish Tacos

May you eat well and exercise both physically and spiritually, so you will be fit to do what ever good God has prepared in advance for you to do, Ephesians 2:10.

The reason I am passing on this easy recipe is because it never occurred to me to make fish tacos like this before my daughter taught me, so I wondered if you would be interested too.  Typically in restaurants, the fish tacos I order are served with whole pieces of fish.  This recipe uses chopped pieces of fish, which makes it so much easier to cook.  This would be a great recipe for an older child to learn because you don’t have to worry about the fish breaking apart when you flip it.  (a task I can never get right)

I start off with 2 bags of wild caught cod and defrost it in the refrigerator.  You could use any kind of fish.  Cook in olive  oil until done and flaky.   Stir in  a package of taco seasoning mix, watch out, most have MSG in the ingredients.  Lastly, spoon into tortillas and add toppings.  I love sour cream, cheddar, and cilantro…lots of cilantro for me please.

So there you have it.  A quick simple meal with lots of fishy goodness for your family.  Nutritionists say you should have fish once or twice a week.

CAUTION. I AM HUNGRY.

You know that time of day when your stomach speaks to you.? Powerfully demanding? Refocusing all attention on self? It is out of that moment of raw, animalistic hunger that this post comes knocking. If caught off guard, I believe the enemy can manipulate me in this moment of weakness…this hunger…if I let him.

It is out of that moment of raw, animalistic hunger that this post comes knocking. If caught off guard, I believe the enemy can manipulate me in this moment of weakness…this hunger…if I let him.

Remember Esau? Scripture says Esau came in from working one day famished. In a drama queen kind of way Esau declared that he would die if he didn’t get the stew that his younger brother Jacob was deliciously simmering on the fire. Jacob took advantage of Esau’s terrible need and sold the bowl of stew for his inheritance as the oldest. The Message says, “That’s how Esau shrugged off his rights as the firstborn”  Read the whole story here.

Staying clear headed around meal time has gotten me thinking about the temptation of Jesus.  Is the enemy’s timing a matter of coincidence?  “After fasting forty days and forty nights HE (Jesus) WAS HUNGRY.” (Matthew 4:2)

Go deep with me y’all…what if I turn my hunger into a spiritual experience? What if I use that growling stomach as a reminder to pray? A time for thankfulness? A time to say to the Lord, “My god is not my stomach” (Phil.3:19) A time to mimic our Savior and say to the enemy, “Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4)  That hunger zone between meals could be a mini-fast dedicated to Him. “But when you fast, comb your hair and wash your face. Then no one will notice you are fasting, except your Father who knows what you do in private. And your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.” (Matthew 6:17)

All I am saying is that maybe we need to look at hunger in a different way. Instead of frantically trying to appease the beast by quickly calling Little Caesars.  Maybe we should take a moment to focus on God, and then carefully plan what healthy food we will put into our body… in order to honor Him.

Consuming food takes on a whole new meaning when your main focus is not pleasure or hunger.

Eating as Worship

Consuming food takes on a whole new meaning when your main focus is not pleasure or hunger.

The Eating For Him Series

Culture has clear ideas about the purpose of a healthy body. Culture suggests that health is for YOU…for longer life, for self esteem, for energy, for those old jeans in your closet.

But to a Jesus follower, health should  not be for you, but for what you can do with it. Health is to help you live longer to serve Him, to give you energy for Him, to help you raise your kids for Him. Stop looking in the mirror if what you see distracts you from your purpose, to keep healthy to serve Him.

Consuming food takes on a whole new meaning when your main focus is not pleasure or hunger.

I want to start Day 1 of my blog with several posts on changing your mindset about food. Each bite you take is spiritual worship to the Holy Spirit. Each decision to avoid processed food is a knee bent to the Father. Each lesson taught to your children about healthy food choices is a song of praise to our Lord. Each meal made with tired hands from a long day at work is a holy prayer rising up.

Consuming food takes on a whole new meaning when your main focus is not pleasure or hunger.
