Why can't all followers of Jesus just come together around scripture?

I have always been sure beyond a shadow of a doubt that My husband and I were the key to heaven for my children, even though some who have wayward children may disagree. The most galvanizing moment in my life as a young mother was when an elder's wife argued with me about the possibilities of success in raising my children to see heaven. This led me on a frantic Bible journey which convinced me even further that it is possible to obtain what I desired.

3 Assurances That you CAN Raise Your Children to see Heaven

I have always been sure beyond a shadow of a doubt that My husband and I were the key to heaven for my children, even though some who have wayward children may disagree.  The most galvanizing moment in my life as a young mother was when an elder’s wife argued with me about the possibilities of success in raising my children to see heaven.  I guess she thought I was arrogant when I expressed my belief that Jesus centered parenting produces Jesus lovers.  She boldly told me it was impossible to be so sure, that some, even after good parenting will turn away and be lost.

No.

Unacceptable.

This led me on a frantic Bible journey which convinced me even further that it is possible to obtain what I desired.  But it’s hard y’all.  This task of raising children is thwarted at every hand by the devil and His minions.  And let me say this, even though your child dallies in a certain sin for a season doesn’t mean they are lost forever.  I believe they will always return to the fold.  Look at the last part of this scripture:  Bring up a child by teaching him the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn away from it. Proverbs 22:6 NLT

But, I didn’t want my children to waste their lives away from God and then come back to Him when they were older.  My goal was to have strong, steadfast, faithful children so they could in turn raise strong, steadfast, faithful children.  Our strategy was to parent with this goal in mind.  So if you are having doubts about your ability to save your own children, be encouraged with these thoughts from scripture.

1.  Children are Good Soil

Matthew 13:3-8

But, good soil has to be cultivated, fertilized, watered, nurtured.  If the soil is not cared for, or left on its own then it becomes dry and hard.  If the rocks are not plucked out carefully, then roots will not take hold.  If not diligent, then thorns will pop up.  A parent must constantly working the soil of the child.  But happily, this good soil will produce an abundant crop.  This is a promise.

2.  It’s God’s Will

Ephesians 1:11

Your children are predestined to become believers.  They were entrusted to YOU.   For an analogy…our family loves the Houston Astros team  My children were destined to love this team too.  Why?  We wear the shirts, we gather around the radio or television, we discuss stats in the car and around the table, we travel to Houston for a live experience,  we whoop, we holler, and we sing.  So now, even though my son lives in California, he is not ashamed to put on his Astros hat when the Angels are playing Houston.  He proudly roots for his team even though he is surrounded by the enemy.   He has been TRAINED.

God has put these children in your family so you can train them for His team.  It’s inevitable.  It’s His will.

3.  You have Power.  POWER.

Ephesians 3:14-21

This immense love of God can only be understood through the Holy Spirit.  He strengthens you, He dwells in your hearts, and He can do more that you can you can ask or imagine.   So partner up and ask Him.  You are not alone for one second.

When a Simple Thanks Doesn’t Match the Gift

Here is my dilemma y’all.  I have labored in prayer over a need.  My mind has been occupied by this trouble for months now.  It starts in the morning, and ends as my eyes close.  It’s always there as I go about my day.  It is a constant petition on behalf of my loved one.

So then, suddenly, without warning…POOF, the problem is gone.  The need has been met in ways no one could have dreamed up in a human mind.  I am stunned.  I am thankful.

But mere thanks just doesn’t seem enough after the amount of time I have suffered in prayer.  Shouldn’t the thanks be equal or greater than the petition? But oftentimes the only thing I have to offer Him comes from my mouth, “Thank you.”  But, y’all, those words just don’t seem enough.

Has this happened to you? Suddenly, without warning...POOF, the problem is gone. A need has been met in ways no one could have dreamed up in a human mind. A simple thanks just doesn't seem to match the gift.

In scripture, the children of Israel were finally heading to the Promise Land after many distractions and delays.  God recreated the crossing of the Red Sea for this new generation of Israelites as they set out across the Jordan River.  I’ll bet as their feet kicked up dust in that river bed…wide-eyed at the wall of commanded water on the right and on the left, they remembered the history of their fathers.    Read the story here.   Joshua commanded that twelve stones to be set up in the middle of the river.  The purpose?  Family discussions. This moment in time will live because children will ask and someone will answer.  Remembering is prolonged thankfulness.

And this is what I want to offer Jesus.  A remembrance of a difficult prayer answered.  Something created by me so that those who weren’t there might ask and I might tell.  For God is GOOD.  And He loves mightily.

I haven’t put my idea into action yet, but I have plans for my own memorial “stones.”  They involve a blank area of my dining room, a printer, cool frames and Walgreen’s photo shop.  I will be creating colorful signs that I will order in various sizes to create a space of refection, questions and thankfulness.  This will be a summer project and I will post pictures once it is completed.  I can just see it now…   Ziva will ask, “Granna, what is that for?”  and drawing her close I will say,  “Come let me tell you about the times God was so good…”  She will ask and I will tell.

Therefore, I will always remind you about these things—even though you already know them and are standing firm in the truth you have been taught. And it is only right that I should keep on reminding you as long as I live. For our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me that I must soon leave this earthly life,so I will work hard to make sure you always remember these things after I am gone. 2 Peter 1:12-15 NLT

This is why I give …

The thief must no longer steal. Instead, he must do honest work with his own hands, so that he has something to share with anyone in need. Ephesians 4:28 HCSB

Look y’all, this scripture has a cause and effect conjunction clause right in the middle.

Work to make money…SO THAT you can give to those in need.

The Internet makes following this verse so easy with GOFUNDME and other organizations who take donations online.  In case you were wondering…I only give to those connected with someone I know.  And I only give to those in a real pinch.  And we always discuss and pray before we give because it needs to be God moving us.  Also we give anonymously to fulfill these words of Jesus…

“Watch out! Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven. When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get.  But when you give to someone in need, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.  Matthew 6:1-4 NLT

To let you in on our family giving strategy… we do not give our entire tithe to the local church, a portion goes into a special account at our bank,  set aside especially to fulfill this verse.    Maintaining a special account for this purpose leaves us ready to give at a moment’s notice.  Of course we don’t just give to one organization, but GOFUNDME came through for us several years ago when we were in Cambodia, desperate for funds after my son’s motorcycle accident.

One last thing for you millennials who don’t go to church anymore, but still have strong faith.  Just because you don’t drop your tithe in a collection plate, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be generous with your money.  In fact, I am praying that you find your own personal way to show your love for Jesus with your salary.   Use your imagination, and go forth…

Disappointed? Be Careful What You Do Next

Many people I love have suffered deep, crippling disappointments in life.  I have too.

Disappointment makes us feel like road kill on the side of the highway.  It leaves a scent that calls to the vultures of the spiritual world.   They nip at faith.  They feast on doubts.  They rip.  They lie.  But these spiritual vultures will quickly take flight when the disappointed sit up and show life.

Disappointed? Life not turning out quite like you planned? Heed this warning y'all! Be careful what you do next.

Heed this warning y’all.  Don’t linger in despair.  Don’t find comfort in misery.  Yes, life takes its turns.  It  surprises.  It horrifies.  It doesn’t quite turn out the way you envision.  But God promises that that the life He gives you will be full.  He promises peace.  How?  Through prayers.  Through THANKSGIVING.   When we are fighting off those vultures, it’s hard to focus on anything but self preservation.  Thanksgiving helps you to see God.  You have to purposely thank Him for your blessings in order to receive peace.  Scripture says so.

Disappointed? Life not turning out quite like you planned? Heed this warning y'all! Be careful what you do next.

And that’s what we need… a guarded heart while we live.  And let’s LIVE y’all!

Blessings, Alice

Tripping Over Gravestones. A Happily Ever After Story.

Sometimes all someone needs is an uncomplicated way of looking at the entire story of man and God. Read my version written like a parable. I also posted my latest video where I discuss what scripture has to say about what will happen to the body when Christ comes back. Please share with someone who is struggling with the death of someone they love, or their own mortality.

This is a true story.

In the beginning there were beloved children, adored by their Father.  They were given the freedom to frolic and play, as long as they didn’t wander out of the light.  One day they noticed an expansive shadow that seemed cool and alluring.  It invited them into its satisfying darkness.   The deeper they wandered, the more lost they became.  Thorns ripped their feet and choked the soil.   They tripped over gravestones.  The lost children called out for their Father, but He was far away.   He was Light, and Light could not step into darkness.  But the Father did not abandon His children.  He called out instructions to them on how to live in the darkness.   Blood sacrifices were required, but  were never enough to cleanse.  Never enough to bring the lost back into the light.  The Father longed for his missing sons and daughters.  He would do ANYTHING to live with them again. ANYTHING.

And then the purist of Lambs stepped forward, His name was LOVE.  He walked resolutely into the darkness, lighting the way with His words from the Father, words of hope.  But not all the wanderers followed the Lamb.  Most were accustomed to the gloom, and had forgotten what the Father’s voice sounded like.  Many tried to silence LOVE,  and so spilled the blood of the perfect Lamb.

Finally a sacrifice that was enough.

It was finished.

But, LOVE could not stay dead.  Those who believed LOVE was the perfect Lamb were given the Father’s light to speak. A lure to the lost.  Words of a future…where darkness is banished…graves gone…thorns burned up.  And in that future, the Father walks with His children once again in glorious light.

But for now we wait.

Let me speak of LOVE to you.  His name is Jesus.

Dear Friends, I have written this version of God’s LOVE story for you to share with others. Here is a PDF for you to print out. This is a true story PDF Sometimes all someone needs is just another way of looking at this love story.  I intend this story to be a seed.  Certainly there are missing pieces…scriptures that the next gardener will  use when they water the seed.  As I travel this summer, I plan to tape copies of this story on the inside of bathroom stall doors, hotels, my cruise, rest areas, and other stops all over America.

I would love for you to watch my latest video when I take a walk in a Neches River graveyard.  Have you been wondering what will happen to your body when Jesus comes?  You won’t stay dead that’s for sure.
